FLAMMINGO is a coordinated trend-following framework for NinjaTrader 8.
- Standard FLAMMINGO combines SuperTrend Pro, Waddah Attar Explosion Pro, and Solar Wave.
- Fast-Scalping FLAMMINGO adds Superior ADX/DMI and ninZaRenko for a faster intraday workflow.
The framework organizes the decision in a clear order: establish direction, evaluate momentum, then look for timing.
Its strategy logic was developed by pro trader Antonino Venuto, with particular focus on late entries, trend exhaustion, and the effect of real execution costs.
A valid signal can still be too late
An entry can meet the visible conditions and still arrive after a trend has already done much of its work.
FLAMMINGO helps you read the conditions around the entry, so you can distinguish a developing opportunity from a move with less room left to run.
The goal is not to predict every move. It is to give you a clearer basis for deciding when to participate, when to wait, and when to leave the next signal alone.
A signal can be right and still be late
Traders do not only lose because a signal is wrong. They can also lose because a valid signal appears late.
On fast charts, a trend can still look intact after momentum has started to fade.
If each marker is treated as a fresh event, the trader can miss that the underlying opportunity has changed.
The issue is not whether the marker is technically valid. It is whether the market still supports another entry in the same direction.
When the next signal is no longer a new opportunity
FLAMMINGOADX addresses that problem with a simple rule: no more than 2 consecutive trades in the same direction.
After 2 trades, later signals in that direction are ignored until SuperTrend Pro flips the macro trend.
The strategy is therefore willing to miss a third or fourth entry—even if the signal still appears valid.
It does not assume that every later entry will fail.
It prevents the system from treating a trend that has already been used as a new opportunity.
The counter resets only when the macro trend flips.
Context before commitment
A trade should be assessed in context, not by its trigger alone.
Direction, momentum, and timing answer different questions.
- Direction tells you where to look
- Momentum tells you whether the move has support
- Timing tells you whether the setup is actionable now
Keeping those questions separate makes the decision easier to examine and harder to explain away after the fact.
Trend → Momentum → Trigger
FLAMMINGO uses a 3-part sequence, with each component responsible for a different part of the decision.
Trend
SuperTrend Pro establishes the primary directional bias.
It defines whether the framework should focus on potential long or short conditions.
Momentum
Waddah Attar Explosion Pro evaluates whether current movement supports that directional bias.
It helps distinguish strengthening movement from a slowdown or a low-activity condition.
Trigger
Once direction and momentum are aligned, Solar Wave provides the short-term entry context.
Its trend and pullback behavior helps identify when the timing is consistent with the broader market condition.
Fast-Scalping adds another layer of validation
Fast-Scalping FLAMMINGO keeps the same sequence and adds Superior ADX/DMI for another view of directional strength and market state.
It uses ninZaRenko as the chart environment for the faster intraday approach.
These additions extend the framework; they do not replace its original logic.
2 configurations. 1 core logic.
The included tools and intended use are:
| Standard FLAMMINGO | Fast-Scalping FLAMMINGO | |
|---|---|---|
| Included indicators | SuperTrend Pro, Waddah Attar Explosion Pro, Solar Wave | SuperTrend Pro, Waddah Attar Explosion Pro, Solar Wave, Superior ADX/DMI, ninZaRenko |
| Primary use | Flexible trend-following workflow | Fast intraday and scalping workflow |
1. SuperTrend Pro
Configurable moving-average inputs, ninZaATR-based offsets, trend-state plots, trend-shift alerts, and markers. The directional plot can also be used as a reference for trailing-stop management.
2. Waddah Attar Explosion Pro
MACD and standard-deviation logic presented through an explosion line, directional histogram readings, trend-strength information, and a dead-zone area for filtering weaker conditions.
3. Solar Wave
ninZaATR- and price-action-based readings for trend direction and strength, with a Trend Vector, trailing-stop plot, pullback signals, and step-down readings that can indicate weakening trend strength.
4. Superior ADX/DMI
An additional strength layer for Fast-Scalping FLAMMINGO, with readings for directional conditions, chop, peaks, and possible exhaustion.
5. ninZaRenko
A Renko bar environment with wicks that focuses the chart on price movement rather than time-based bar formation. It provides the chart structure used for the fast intraday case study.
What this changes in practice
Avoid getting caught at the end of a trend
The strategy takes no more than 2 consecutive trades in the same direction, then waits for the broader trend to reverse before trading again. This helps you avoid chasing an exhausted move, only to get caught in a reversal and stopped out.
Focus on just 8 trading hours per day
The strategy trades only during 2 selected windows (6:00–10:30 PM and 10:00 AM–1:30 PM EST), avoiding noisier periods such as the U.S. market open and the European session. This gives you more time for other things while reducing unnecessary trading costs during less effective hours.
Avoid trading in sideways markets
By requiring trend and momentum conditions to align, the strategy helps filter out trades during short-term sideways markets.
Simple to use: Just check 4 boxes
The system follows 4 clear steps: Trend, Momentum, Trigger, and Strength. No need to piece together signals or guess what comes next. Just follow the checklist. The logic and settings are already provided, so you can get started once everything is set up.
Testing beyond ideal fills
A smooth equity curve alone is not enough. Because Renko charts are synthetic, historical results can change materially under different fill assumptions.
To evaluate the Fast-Scalping concept, FLAMINGOADX was coded in NinjaScript for NQ/MNQ on ninZaRenko. The documented development process used:
Testing methodology
Time filters added after testing showed different results across trading sessions after costs.
The tested configuration used ninZaRenko 36/8, a 40-tick stop, a 20-tick target, and 2 selected trading windows: 6:00–10:30 PM EST and 10:00 AM–1:30 PM EST.
9-month historical backtest
Net profit after more than $18,500 in commissions, with 4-tick slippage modeled per trade.
Monte Carlo analysis
Risk of ruin: No ruin events observed under the reported simulation assumptions.
These figures describe one historical test of a specific strategy configuration. They are not a promise of future results and do not remove live-market risk.
The important point is the testing standard: execution friction and sequence risk were considered before placing confidence in the historical curve.
