What makes it different?

  • Reduced lag without period adjustment: Many traders shorten the indicator period to reduce lag when using MAs. However, this indicator takes a different approach. The Regularization factor within its algorithm 'forces' the indicator to ignore unusual and minor market changes, resulting in greater stability and fewer noise signals.
  • Sensitivity control with Lambda (λ): Lambda (λ) is a key parameter in the algorithm that adjusts the indicator's sensitivity. By increasing Lambda, you can achieve smoother results, minimize noise, and enhance clarity. This is particularly valuable for intraday analysis on shorter timeframes.

Signal mechanism

The Regularized EMA Crossover indicator consists of 2 distinct Exponential Moving Averages (EMAs): the Fast EMA and the Slow EMA.

  • Uptrend signal: A bullish signal is generated when the Fast EMA crosses above the Slow EMA, suggesting potential upward momentum in the market.

I asked Larry Pi if there was a workaround, and he created a new version with all the choices for range unit: points, ticks, pips.
